Hair Ties Amazing Tiara History

In the 1950's, the new media of television and magazines saw the return of the tiara, especially as a wedding ornament. The modern tiara or diadem is generally a half crown placed over the forehead and decorated with crystals, pearls and semi-precious stones. Modern designers place more emphasis on design than the value of the gems, so the cost of a wedding tiara is now within the reach of most people. The modern tiara can be worn at social events such as weddings, balls, proms, debuts and beauty pageants. Some are even converted to stunning necklaces or kept as family heirlooms.

After World War I, the tiara gave way to the headband (bandeax) and fascinators(aigrettes). The influence of motion pictures saw the tiara made a comeback in the 1930's before the enforced austerity of World War II set in.

HairTies Hair Tie Blog More on Tiaras

After the fall of Napoleon, jewelry on both sides of the channel became more extravagant and some of the finest tiaras were created at that time. In the nineteenth century and the rise of democracies and the nouveau riche, the wearing of diadems and tiaras shifted from a political to a fashion statement. For the new upwardly mobile classes, the tiara became a `must have' addition to the female wardrobe for social events. Not surprisingly, this period marked the rise of the wedding tiara.

Hair Ties Hair Tie Blog Tiara History

The oldest known Christian crown in Europe was the iron crown of the Lombards. It was made (it was claimed) from one of the beaten down nails from the Cross and was decorated with gold and jewels and crowned the heads of kings for over a thousand years. Like many crowns of the Christian era in Europe, it was a circlet, without arches or cap. A `coronet' as it's name implies is a small crown. Unlike a crown, it never has arches and consists of ornaments fixed to a metal ring.

Hair ties Hair Tie Blog Tiaras

The Roman republic had a similar distaste for kingship and the wearing of a diadem or tiara (by then, the same thing) was banned. Even Julius Caesar - after he had defeated Pompey and the Senate and established his dictatorship, didn't feel secure enough to accept the proffered crown and accepted a laurel wreath instead. It wasn't until the fourth century AD, with the complete subjection of the Senate and people, that emperors began wearing a diadem. By the time Roman authority was finally extinguished in the west, the tiara or crown had become a symbol of royal authority.

In the fourth Century BC with the failure of Athens, and the rise of the Syracusan tyrants and later Alexander the Great, the democratic experiment was over and absolute power was concentrated in the persons of Alexander and his heirs. They all donned Persian dress and wore diadems dressed in gold and precious stones.

In ancient Greece, a diadem (from `diadeo' to bind around) was originally a white ribbon bound around the head. Several of the Greek gods have been portrayed wearing diadems on frescos and pottery and not surprisingly, the Greeks dressed divine statues with them and even awarded them to star athletes. Throughout the classical period, when monarchies or tyrannies in Greece were regarded with some distaste, so when certain generals took to donning diadems or (even worse) Persian dress, they were regarded as upstarts and dealt with harshly.

Hair Ties Blog on Tiaras

ANCIENT ORIGINS

The purpose of a crown or tiara has always been, to portray the wearer as someone special, someone ordained by the gods. Those origins are as ancient as society itself, and every culture had some form of headdress or crown. The ancient Egyptian pharaohs wore a triple crown demonstrating the unity of the culture, while the Assyrian kings wore a headdress featuring bulls horns and feathers.

The term `tiara' originates in ancient Persia, where only the king was allowed to tie his tiara up so that it stood erect. It was tall and conical in shape and richly ornamented with jewels. Later papal tiaras had a similar shape.

Excerpt from Wedding Tiaras

Thursday, August 5, 2010

The history of tiaras is somewhat cloudy, but most jewelry historians credit the Egyptians for creating the first tiaras. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) had an influence on tiaras in more recent times; his love for announcing he and his family's affluence and nobility made the tiara a required accessory at all social functions during his reign. The tiara was at its heyday between the early 1800s and the beginning of World War I (1917-1920).

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Women wear tiaras for many special occasions. Tiaras are appropriate and fashionable for balls, proms, weddings, beauty pageants, and coming out parties. Today's tiaras are easier to wear than the tiaras of days gone by because they are now constructed of the newer, lighter materials, and they are available in a wide range of prices.

Excerpt from: What are Tiaras

Monday, July 26, 2010

Many tiara bases are fashioned of wire made from metals ranging from the most common such as pot metal to fine metals such as platinum and gold. The wire is artistically arranged to show off both the design of the tiara and the stones to their best advantage. Many tiaras are raised at the center and taper off at the sides. In less expensive tiaras the stones are glued into place, but costly tiaras  set gems in prongs so there is less likelihood of losing a stone.

Tiara's - This one's pretty BIG

Christie's, the famous auctioneer disclosed information about the jewels of Maharaja of Kapurthala. The jewellery pieces belonged to Anita Delgado. She was a Spanish flamenco dancer and singer from Andalusia. During the festival for the marriage of King Alfonso XIII in 1906, Maharaja Sir watched her performance in a cafe concert. Maharaja sir attempted to court
her and later persuaded her to marry him.

Hair Flowers

Hair flowers

Remind us of Spring and bring a sense of fresh wholesomeness.

Some prefer beautiful flower adornments to sparkling hair jewellery. I, like the majority of people love both and wear them on different occassions, sometimes to express a mood or to compliment either a casual or special occassion.

There are fake flower clips, real flower clips, flowers on headbands, and even the use of natural flowers. Flowers add a real nice touch to hairstyles, especially fresh flowers. A small flower pin can add a little twist to a simple hairstyle, while a floral headband can add a special touch to a low maintenance hairstyle and also pull an outfit together.

The perfect accessory item.

Hair Jewellery

Is one of the most widely used of all hair accessories. There's such a huge variety of jewelled hair accessories. Different types, styles--so many to choose from.

There are many different hair jewellery bling clips, headbands, tiaras and so on -- all add sparkle and pop to the hair.

Different coloured jewels match different hair shades, so be careful and have a little think before deciding on the perfect piece of hair jewellery that would suit you best. Either that, or just bust out and shop all you want. Get as many pieces of hair jewellery as your little heart desires.

You might want to consider matching coloured hair jewellery with the shade of your hair. For instance a light blue or aquamarine will compliment blonde hair nicely, while bright reds can bring out the highlights in brunette hair. Or what ever... just go get what you like personally, don't worry about pleasing everyone else as long as you like what you choose... you will be the one wearing it!

If your hair style requires the hair to be pinned behind the ears, a jewelled accessory above the ear would be perfect.

Top 10 Hair Care Tips - Part 5

Top 10 Hair Care Tips

Part 5 cont...

8. Protect your hair when swimming

Swimming is a great way to exercise, benefiting the body as a whole. Unfortunately chlorine used in swimming pools can damage your hair by stripping it of essential oils and nutrients which results in dry, brittle and broken hair.  In some cases, high levels of copper and other chemicals in the water can cause hair to turn green. Protect your hair against these damaging effects by wearing a swimming cap taking care to wash your hair every time you have been for a swim.  Use a mild shampoo, a deep conditioner and consider using hair masks every so often.

9. Have a deep conditioning treatment

Give your hair a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week as this will help prevent dryness, strengthen hair strands and provide extra nutrients which promote hair health.

Top 10 Hair Care Tips - Part 4

Top 10 Hair Care Tips
Part 4 cont...

6. Avoid excessive heat on your hair

Hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons help style your hair so that you look fabulous but be aware that this comes at a cost. They are fine for short term use
but prolonged use can dry out your hair causing split ends and breakage. They can
even cause you to experience excessive hair shedding. It may help if you choose a
cooler setting on your hairdryer or use curling irons that don’t need to be heated.

7. Brush your hair properly

This may sound obvious but it is possible to really damage your hair by incorrect brushing. Never use force. Don’t brush wet hair. If you feel as though you have to comb through, then be care, use a comb never a brush.

Top 10 Hair Care Tips - Part 3

Top 10 Hair Care Tips - Part 3

Part 3 cont...

5. Avoid or reduce lifestyle factors

These include stress, smoking and pollution.

Stress, smoking and pollution are all external factors which can have a negative effect on our hair.

Stress can be good for us in small doses but extreme or chronic stress causes health problems. Stress may affect the hair growth cycle, causing the follicles to shut down which prevents further hair growth. Reducing your stress levels will benefit your body mind and soul as well as your hair.

Smoking is bad for our health and adversely affects hair growth as well. It restricts blood flow (and circulation) to the hair follicles which impacts upon its ability to grow new hair.  Try to cut down on your smoking if you can or even better give up altogether. There are many sources of help for those who would like to give up smoking, I'm sure it must be terribly difficult but if you would like to try to give it up ask your GP they will be able to help point you in the right direction. Your body will thank you and your family and friends will hug and congratulate you for finding the strength and courage to win the nicotine battle.

We can’t always prevent pollution, such as car exhaust fumes but we can take steps to minimise exposure. If you live in an area which is heavily polluted then protect your hair by wearing a hat, you may need to wash it more frequently and finish off with a good conditioner.

Top 10 Hair Care Tips

3. Avoid tight hairstyles such as dreadlocks or tight braiding.

These are very fashionable hairstyles, my daughter had dreadlocks for many years and I loved the look on her. Dreadlocks look great but unfortunately as my daughter discovered is not good for your hair long term. Both tight braids and dreadlocks pull the hair too tight which strains the hair follicles weakening them over time, resulting in hair thinning and eventually hair loss.

4. Avoid using to many hair products

Hair products such as gels, hairsprays, conditioners, mousses and colours can enhance your hair but overuse can damage hair strands or even cause hair loss. When used too often you may get a build up of product in the hair, causing it to weaken and break.

Excessive use of hair products can also cause your hair to become brittle and dry increasing the chance of getting split ends. Product abuse may also cause hair thinning and hair loss. Give your hair a break a couple days a week, this will allow your hair time to regenerate itself.

Top 10 Hair Care Tips - Part 1

Top 10 Hair Care Tips

1. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type

There are heaps of different brands of shampoos and conditioners out there these days, make sure that you choose one that suits your hair type. For example, if you have dry hair, then use a shampoo which is designed for dry hair. Check the ingredients as many shampoos contain additives that may be too harsh for your hair. Shampoos that contain dimethicone and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride will help ensure that your hair stays soft and shiny.

2. Follow a healthy diet

Eat healthy foods. This will ensure that your hair remains in pretty good condition.
Fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains as well as vegetable sources of protein will be appreciated by your hair as well as your body.

Include lots of water in your diet. Drinking the recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water a day will keep your skin as well as your hair properly hydrated. Consider adding a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement to your diet and reduce your intake of fatty or fried foods, salt and sugar.
